Harvest Days

The LSU Rural Life Museum presents its annual Harvest Day event. Louisiana artisans will interpret agricultural and household activities common on farms during harvest time in the 19th century. Throughout the day, we will also have various musical performances.
Regular admission prices will be charged for attendance to Harvest Day.

| Raptor Viewing | The LSU Vet School’s Raptor Rehabilitation Program will bring a few birds that are in the program for the public to see. The raptors will only be at the museum from 8:30am until 11:00am. |
| Spinning | Demonstration on how wool or cotton fibers were spun into yarn. |
| Weaving | Demonstration on how yarn was woven into cloth using a loom. |
| Reed Basket Weaving | Demonstration on how to weave baskets made from reeds. |
| Tatting | The art of making lace. |
| Corn Husk Dolls | Demonstration on how to make dolls from dried corn husks. |
| Woodworking | Demonstration on how to construct a work bench. |
| Blacksmithing | The blacksmith will light the fire in the forge to demonstrate how various farm implements were made in the 19th century. |
| Quill Pen Writing | Demonstration on how to make and use quill pens from bird feathers. |
| Open Hearth Cooking | The cook will light the fire in the kitchen to demonstrate how food was cooked in the 19th century over an open-hearth. |
| Black Powder Firearms | A talk about the different firearms from the 19th century as well as the advances in firearm technology. |
| Soap Making | Demonstration on how to make home-made soap. |
| Corn Grinding | Demonstration on how to grind corn into flour. |
| Historic Toys and Games | Demonstration on how to play various children’s games from the 19th century. |
Pine Needle Basket Weaving | Demonstration on how to weave baskets made from pine needles. |
| Bee Keeping | Demonstration on how to raise bees and cultivate honey. |
| Wagon Rides | Take a ride in a wagon pulled by either a mule team or a tractor. The tractor will operate when the mule team is resting. |
