Resolve to get Involved!
2016, Still love Halloween
Hi, there. I’m Jessica Edwards, your 2016 President of the 10/31 Consortium Board of Directors. For those of you who don’t know me, I have been a member of 10/31 Consortium since the first meeting in July of 2010 and have served on the Board of Directors every year since. My first few years I served as Fundraising Chair; and in 2013, not only was I Parade Captain, also the Queen of the Halloween Parade. I worked hard to earn enough royalty points to earn the Queen III title and I love our system in which any member can also become royalty. I served 2015 as past-president so I’m well rested and looking forward to a great 2016.
It’s a new year and I see lots of great things happening for 10/31 Consortium. I’m referring to this year as “The Year of the Member” because it’s my personal goal to get you more involved in your club. In an effort to do so, I’ve added the responsibilities of a Volunteer Coordinator to our Community Outreach Chair. Stephanie Charles, a new Board Member, is in that seat and she’s pumped to get you all together for some Halloween fun all throughout the year. Having a 10/31 presence at local events, in addition to our own wicked events, will only help our club and the Baton Rouge Halloween Parade grow. Please be on the lookout for messages from her on opportunities where you can get more involved in our events, charity initiatives, and community outreach programs. This year I resolve to reach out to you; our members and future members, to join us and get more involved. As you know, we are so much more than a parade; we put on events year round that need fun-loving, creative, and hard-working volunteers. If you’ve been a member and haven’t yet made use of your membership, make 2016 a spooktacular year! It’s time to resolve to get involved!
Personally, I can’t believe it has been six years since I attended my first meeting about a Halloween Parade. I saw a flier at Zippy’s advertising a new group that wanted to start a Halloween Parade. I knew it was something I had to be a part of and I haven’t looked back since! I also know that there are more people out there like me, just waiting to pick up a flier, or stumble across a group of crazy people wearing Halloween costumes in May. I hope you will join the fun and help them find us.
The Spanish Town Parade is already a month away and I hope you’ll join us on our float! The Peanut Butter Mini Golf Tournament happens in May so get your putters ready! Our Black and Orange Bash comes in July and it’s another a great excuse to dress in costume and kick-off the Halloween season! Then, there’s the Shiver Me Timbers Pirate Scavenger Hunt with lots of booty waiting to be discovered! If you made it to The Ghostly Gala and Parade you can expect them get bigger and better each year! There are so many areas to get involved, don’t let 2016 pass you by- spend it with people that love the spirit of Halloween as much as you. I hope to see you all at future events, costumed and smiling. Start thinking about ideas for the year and please send them our way.
