Giving and Receiving

Thanksgiving may have been a few months ago, but 10/31 Consortium is always in the giving spirit! I am so pleased to announce that we have delivered our annual donation check to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Each year we have been able to increase our donation by $1,031, making this year’s donation a total of $5,155. This brings our total contribution for the last 5 years to $15,411! Thank you to all our members and sponsors for helping us to grow and continue our mission to better our community.

With Mardi Gras being February 9th this year, you will probably want to get your long johns ready. Then again, you never know with Louisiana weather. We plan to be out in full force no matter what the weather brings. Our float in the Spanish Town Parade this year will be sporting a “May the Flock be with You” theme with riders dressed as everything from Chewbacca to flamingos. If you’re on the hunt for extra beads, get your “I Love 10/31 Consortium” sign ready and we’ll toss some your way from our float at the parade.

We also walked in the Krewe of Mystic Mutts Dog Parade yesterday. We have enjoyed having the CAAWS dogs and volunteers in our own Halloween Parade and we love showing off our own four-legged friends in theirs.  The theme for their parade this year also payed tribute to Han Solo & Princess Leia fans with “Paw Wars.” The crowd for this parade grows every year, and all enjoyed our “doggie kissing booth” in Bark in the Park.

No matter what you’re doing this carnival season, I hope you’re gearing up your creative side. Don’t forget to save some of those creative juices for the fall because we will be ready and waiting!
