September’s here, which means National Talk Like a Pirate Day, and, more importantly, our Annual Shiver Me Timbers Pirate Scavenger Hunt. Start making plans with your teams of four to traipse around town dressed as your favorite pirate collecting clues for points. Or just dress up like a pirate and hang out at The Cove, where the evening will end, just because that’s what you usually do on a Friday night. We’re good with that, too. Either way, we hope to see you there! As always, please remember your canned goods and your children’s costume for the costume drive.
But, with September here, it means we’re in crunch mode with only 35 days until our first annual Halloween ball, the Ghostly Gala, and a mere 49 days from our 3rd annual Halloween Parade. This is such an exciting, and overwhelming time for us, and all I can say is that I hope each and every one of you is along for the ride. The Gala committee has been working their pretty little fingers to the bone to make this Gala everything you could hope for our first year. I don’t think they will disappoint. And our organization has already attracted so much new attention this year, that our parade is sure to grow. It’s even more likely to grow if you grow it with us. Get your friends and neighbors to put a float together. Know of a walking group that would be perfect for our parade? Spread the word and spread the love!
Finally, in the next couple of weeks you’ll get an email with pictures and biographies of 14 people running for next year’s board. Of the 14 people in the email, you will select 13, as our bylaws only allow for 15 total board members (including President, Jessica Edwards, and Past President, me). Consider carefully the direction you want your board to move, and the talents each can offer, before making your decision. I think you’ll be pleased at the options before you. There is quite a diverse group out there.
I hope to be seeing a lot of you over the next few weeks. Until then, Happy Haunting!
10/31 Consortium President
